ARSENE WENGER has revealed the reason behind his over-sized training jacket is actually his childhood hero Batman.
The Arsenal manager made the shocking confession to French magazine Le Geek.
He said: “It started when I was a little boy growing up in Strasbourg.
“I loved the way Batman fought his demons on the inside while he fought the baddies on the outside. Since then I’ve always been a fan.”
Wenger admitted that he often visits comic book conventions whilst wearing a costume so no one will identify him, and that being a famous football manager comes with perks.
He said: “I’ve been invited to film premieres and gala events.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to meet everyone whose played Batman, from Adam West to Christian Bale, and even managed to get their autographs.”
Wenger did admit that not everyone is completely supportive, and that his admiration for Bob Kane’s creation has resulted in numerous confrontations with footballing authorities.
He said: “I would like to be able to put on a cowl and mask, so I really look the part. Unfortunately Premier League bosses have turned down this request.”
When quizzed if his sqaud knew of his unusual hobby, the former Monaco boss admitted that the players admire his passion for the Caped Crusader.
He said: “Initially they were shocked, but now they are used to it.
“They see nothing wrong with me getting up on the bench, making sure my coat is bellowing behind me.
“Of course, is was tough when Robin (Van Persie) was taken by the Red Devils.
“But, I can always cheer the boys up with a theatrical karate kick and a shout of ‘Kapow!”
