Newcastle United Director of Football, Joe Kinnear, has confirmed he is ‘exasperated’ at the sheer volume of phonecalls he receives from Bayern Munich boss, Pep Guardiola.
“Oh for pete’s sake – that’s him again,” said a visibly irritated Kinnear as his mobile phone began to vibrate on the desk in front of him.
“I mean, when he’s gonna take the hint?”
The former Luton boss was responding to the latest in a series of screened phonecalls received from the Champions League winning Spaniard.
“It’s one thing after another with him.
“First he’s wantin’ to talk about tactics – then he’s tappin’ me up for my views on squad rotation.
“The other day, he starts on about whether he should try and sign that big Polish lad from Dortmund – he’s givin’ it all, ‘ah Joe, I just don’t know what to do…’”
It is not clear how the two managers came to meet, though Kinnear appears to have developed into a totemic like father figure to the former Barcelona manager.
The recently appointed Munich boss was described by Kinnear as, “a good lad, basically – he just needs to find ‘is own way a bit, y’know?
“Ah, look at that – ‘e’s only gone and left another bloody voicemail,” added Kinnear, as the phone signalled a new inbox message.
